Please excuse the quality of the pictures as this was one of my first garden designs Herne Hill Se24 back in the day, and I think the camera had only 200 pixels, or it could have been a pin hole! Anyway it has a special place in my heart, a bit like a first born, and I’m proud of it.

Inspired by Paul Klee (and certainly not the first garden designer), using interlocking rectilinear geometry to create the pathway and beds around the large lawn. I can’t really call it contemporary garden design as it was about 14 years ago, but it has modern garden principles. The decorative gravel pathway and rustic cobbles temper the geometric outlay.

The Massaranduba hardwood deck makes for a comfy lounging area, and wraps itself around the contemporary house extension as terrace and pathway.

As a family garden I designed bespoke water feature as interactive, you can sit on and around it. The large millstone makes for a cool wet seat for the kids when it gets very hot! Some garden designers use planting as their inspiration, whereas I tend to be inspired by shape, form and architecture.
